There are two massive Premier League games being played on Saturday August 28. Manchester City host Arsenal and Liverpool are home to Chelsea. Let’s take a look at these two matches and the latest betting odds.
Manchester City v Arsenal (12.30pm KO)
One team can go top of the table for a few hours, the other are hoping to get out of the relegation zone. Manchester City start the weekend in ninth place in the Premier League. They have three points from their two games so far. They started with a defeat at Tottenham and then demolished Norwich City 5-0 last weekend.
A two-goal margin victory can take them to the top of the Premier League for a short while. They have an excellent record against Arsenal with each of their last eight Premier League games against them being won. You can get odds of 2/9 at Paddy Power on them getting another win over the Gunners. Do those odds illustrate just how strong City have become or how weak their opponents are? Probably a bit of both. The 4/5 offered at 888sport on City winning and being ahead at half and full time looks a bit more attractive.
Arsenal won 6-0 at West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening. It might look a good result, but Albion put out a mixture of their reserves and youth team. Nice to see them respecting the EFL Cup. A win is a win, and it may give the Gunners some confidence. An Aubameyang hat-trick was the best news coming out of that game. It might put a few million on his transfer fee.
A loss to City will see Arsenal having lost their first three league fixtures. If they lose at Brentford, there’ surely little hope of them winning at the Etihad. They haven’t achieved that since 2015 and the odds of a win on Saturday are 11/1 at William Hill. Considerably shorter than that is the 8/11 at BetVictor on Arteta being the next Premier League manager to leave his job. A narrow defeat this weekend might save him. A heavy loss might just cost him his job.
Liverpool v Chelsea (5.30pm KO)
The heirs to the throne battle it out at Anfield this weekend. The former champions and European champions want to get their Premier League titles back.
Both teams have won their first two Premier League games this season and are yet to concede a goal. Liverpool have van Dijk back and their defence looks solid again, even Robertson being injured. Wins have come against Norwich City and Burnley, so not exactly the elite of the Premier League.
It’s a good start however and they are 6/4 at Betfair to make it three wins out of three. It’s not all about the return of van Dijk, Diogo Jota is back too. He’s scored twice this season already and is a tempting 3/1 at Paddy Power to score another in this match.
Chelsea have had wins over Crystal Palace and Arsenal as well as winning the Super Cup. Romelu Lukaku is back at Stamford Bridge and is already off the mark. He scored the first goal at the Emirates last Sunday and is 6/4 at BetVictor to score at Anfield.
The Blues won at Anfield last season and are 19/10 at William Hill to get another victory this weekend. It’s a test for both sides and a bet on a draw with both teams scoring looks one to make and BetVictor will give you 7/2 on that. It’s unlikely a win for either side would take them top. West Ham currently hold that position and are absolute banker bets to beat Crystal Palace in their 3pm kick-off, take the 11/20 at Unibet.
