The links between betting companies and English football clubs continues to grow. Fulham and Watford had contrasting 2020/21 seasons but will start the new term with new sponsorship deals in place.
What goes up must come down but for Fulham it happened far too fast. Twice in recent years Fulham have been promoted to the Premier League and swiftly made their return. The London club are back in the Championship this season and have announce Spreadex as a Principal Partner for the next two seasons. Will that be one year in the Championship and then the Premier League?
The Spreadex logo will be seen on the back of all the first team kits. They will also work with the club on charity and community initiatives. Fans won’t be able to miss the Spread advertising on the LED permitter board and on social media channels. There will also be fan engagement activities on their digital channels. This will include fans having the opportunity to enter competitions including winning signed shirts.
Spreadex don’t just offer customers sportsbook and spread betting but also financial trading. Not only are they regulated by the Gambling Commission but also the Financial Conduct Authority. Their CFO is James Hallan, and he is “delighted” to see the company “become a part of the Fulham family.” He believes that the deal “signifies Spreadex’s continued growth plans as a company.”
It’s been a busy week for Spreadex as they have also been announced as the principal shirt sponsors of Premier League Burnley.
Going in the opposite direction last season were Watford. It only took them one season to win promotion back to the Premier League. They will start the new season having signed a sponsorship deal with Stake.com. They are the leading crypto casino and sports betting platform and have signed a multi-year deal with Watford.
Stake.com will be the club’s principal shirt sponsor but it’s slightly different than other deals. That’s because payment will be made in cryptocurrency. Stake.com will see the sponsorship deal as an opportunity to increase awareness of their brand. They are soon to launch Stake.co.uk so the sponsorship deal comes at an ideal time.
They will be running a crypto-themed initiatives and this will include a 10 million Dogecoin giveaway. More promotions and giveaways will be on the way once Stake.co.uk is launched. This isn’t their first sports sponsorship deal. March 2021 saw them become the UFC’s Official Betting Partner in Asia and Latin America.
Watford FC Chairman and CEO, Scott Duxbury has welcomed the deal. He said that the club “couldn’t be happier to join with a partner who match our ambitious outlook and commitment to innovation in order to achieve success.”
For Mladen Vuckovic (Stake.co.uk CEO), linking up with the Premier League club “marks the next chapter for our company.” He described Watford as a club with “immense history” but still has a “true innovative spirit.” Hopefully they also like Elton John.
