Safer Gambling Week isn’t just about betting at the bookies. All areas of the gambling industry are supporting the week and that includes Microgaming.
Those of you who love playing slot and video games will need no introduction to Microgaming. They have produced some of the best games around. They are also “on a mission” to reduce and prevent the amount of gambling-related harm and help treat those who do have a problem.
The company has the Microgaming PlayitForward social responsibility programme. They have also been supporting Betknowmore UK. You might just think of men when it comes to gambling problems. However, a recent donation was made to them to help pay for a year-long trial of a weekly group therapy course that is exclusively for women.
Frankie Graham is the founder and CEO of Betknowmore UK. He commented on their relationship with the Microgaming programme. “The collaboration between Microgaming PlayItForward and Betknowmore UK has enabled the development and delivery of new research and support activities that address the theme of women and gambling harms. It is an under-resourced area and, quite rightly, now the recipient of increased investment.”
Some of the donation will be used to provide a comfort fund for the families of those affected by gambling problems. This will include a comfort fund and the buying of furniture for the women’s outreach project.
Microgaming have also helped Motiv8 IOM which is based on the Isle of Man. They sponsored a gaming and gambling project that helps young people.
There have been other projects helped too. GamCare held a month-long campaign to boost awareness of their national helpline (0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.). The costs for that were covered by Microgaming. They also made donations to the Beacon Counselling Trust and the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust. This helped fund educational videos.
John Coleman is the CEO at Microgaming, speaking about the way they help groups, he said: “We’re proudly standing in solidarity with all areas of our industry to support the Safer Gambling Week initiative, with a calendar of events to promote the Responsible Gambling message across our business.”
He added that this is “a conversation our industry should be having all year around” and it’s one that Microgaming are “committed to being a part of.” It’s no surprise that he is proud that Microgaming have “been able to support the invaluable work of a range of gambling-related research, education and treatment charities throughout 2021.”
