There’s been a lot written about betting odds for UK politics in recent months. Now the focus can switch to the USA and the 2024 Presidential election and it’s not good news for Donald Trump or President Biden.
The former President had been the favourite to win the 2024 election and return to the White House. That’s not the case now though and it’s Rob DeSantis who now heads the betting market.
Betfair have DeSantis as the 5/2 favourite to win in 2024. The Governor of Florida was a comfortable winner in his state this week. That’s not the only reason his odds have shortened in the betting market.
Donald Trump had endorsed several Republican candidates standing in the midterm elections. They didn’t do as well as expected and that may lead many in the Republican party to believe his influence is waning. The former President is now 7/2 at William Hill to win in 2024.
The first battle is to win the race to become the Republican candidate in the next US Presidential Election. It’s still close in the betting for whether it’ll be Trump or DeSantis who will get the nod. Coral still have Trump favourite at 5/4 but Paddy Power has them both at 11/8. Next in the market is the former Vice-President Mike Pence, who is 16/1 with BetVictor.
Trump has been promising a big announcement on November 15. If that is his decision to run for the White House, then it’ll be interesting to see how the betting market reacts to that news.
The midterm elections weren’t as bad for President Biden as expected. He’s only the third favourite to win the 2024 Presidential election. You can get odds of 11/2 at Sky Bet on him staying in the White House.
Will he stand for re-election? There are still concerns over his health and days after the 2024 election, he’ll celebrate his 82nd birthday. That’s only four years older than Trump will be, while DeSantis will be 46.
Biden has always indicated that he will try to win a second and final term. Ladbrokes have the President as the 13/8 favourite to be the Democrat candidate. A decision has to be made soon because the Primary elections will begin in the new year.
Vice-President Kamala Harris is 11/2 at BetUK to be the Democratic candidate with Gavin Newsom at 6/1. Newsom has been the Governor of California since 2019 Both Harris and Newsom are 14/1 at bet365 to win the next Presidential election.
The next few weeks and months should tell us a lot more. The Republicans are 8/13 at 10bet to win in 2024 with the Democrats 5/4 with the same bookie. It may well be that Biden’s days in the White House will come to an end in early 2025 with either DeSantis or Trump sworn in as the new President.
