By this time next week, we’ll know the six teams playing in the finals of the three European competitions. There are four English clubs and one from Scotland, still hoping to make it to the finals. Let’s look at their chances and the latest odds.
Could we see an all-English Champions League final for the second year in a row? Liverpool look set to make it to the final after winning the home first leg of their semi-final against Villarreal 2-0. It took the Reds until the 53rd minute to take the lead and even then it was an own goal that put them a goal up. Two minutes later, it was 2-0 and Liverpool look on their way to the final in Paris.
They are 10/11 at Bet365 to win the Champions League and 7/10 at the same bookies to win the second leg. The latter isn’t a bad bet considering the fact Liverpool have won all five of their away Champions League games this season with 15 goals scored.
Who will they meet in the final? The consensus is that it will be Manchester City who are 2/11 at Betfair to get to Paris. They would have preferred a better result than a 4-3 home first leg win over Real Madrid.
City are strong on the road though and are 21/20 at William Hill to win in Madrid, just as Chelsea and Sheriff have already done in this season’s Champions League. Coral offer 1/2 on both teams scoring in the second leg and that looks a great bet to make. City are 6/5 at Paddy Power to finally win the Champions League.
British hopes are so rosy in the other two European competitions. West Ham United lost the home first leg of their Europa League semi-final 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt. The Hammers are now 5/1 at Betfair to win the Europa League.
West Ham did win at Lyon in the quarter finals, but their away form is rather inconsistent. You can get 2/1 at BetVictor on them winning the second leg in Frankfurt with the home side 29/20 with the same bookies. Boylesports have the Hammers at 11/4 to qualify for the final.
It could well be an all-German Europa League final. RB Leipzig had a narrow 1-0 home first leg win over Glasgow Rangers on Thursday. Leipzig are 10/11 at Ladbrokes to win the second leg too and have already won at Real Sociedad and Atalanta in this season’s Europa League.
Including extra-time, Rangers have won four of their last five home Europa League games. They have lost at home to Lyon and Malmo in European competition this season and are 14/5 at 888sport to beat Leipzig in 90 minutes. There could be a few goals in this tie and it’s 8/11 at Bet365 there are over 2.5 goals, a stat that has come up in the last three Rangers home Europa League fixtures.
Finally, we have Leicester City in the Europa Conference League. This represents their only chance of European football next season. They drew the home first leg with Jose Mourinho’s Roma 1-1, their third successive draw. They went behind in the first half and only a Mancini own goal got them level. City are 3/1 at Unibet to win the Europa Conference League, who also have them at 27/10 to beat Roma in the second leg.
Roma are 21/20 at Betfred to win the second leg and 9/4 at 10bet to win the competition. They have won four of their six home games in the Europa Conference League and look on their way to the final. 5/6 at QuinnBet on both Roma and Leicester scoring in the second leg looks a winner.
