The Champions League has reached the quarter finals stage. Three of the eight remaining clubs are from England, can they dethrone Bayern Munich. Let’s look at the four first legs with some hopefully winning betting tips.
Real Madid v Liverpool (Tuesday 6 April, 8pm KO)
Liverpool didn’t win the Premier League the last time they won this competition. Anything can happen in a cup tie, so why shouldn’t the Reds win this season? The winners of this tie face either Chelsea or Porto in the last four.
Liverpool returned to form with a 3-0 win at Arsenal They may not know how to win at Anfield but seven of their last games played away from that venue have been won. The return of Jota has seemed to spark some life into the team, and he’s scored three goals in the last two matches.
Real Madrid are in good form too and are on an 11-game unbeaten run. Their last three home Champions League games has seen them beat Inter, Borussia Monchengladbach and Atalanta. Only one of their last six at home in this competition has seen them keep a clean sheet. A bet on both teams to score in this game has odds of 6/10 at Paddy Power.
Manchester City v Borussia Dortmund (Tuesday 6 April, 8pm KO)
City continue to chase down the quadruple and should be able to get past Borussia Dortmund. Seven of their eight Champions League games have been won this season (the other a draw in Porto). It’s going to take a great performance just to get to the final as the winners of this face either Bayern Munich or Porto in the last four.
Dortmund are unbeaten in their last seven games in this competition. However, they come into this match with one win in their last five. The German side tend to lose the away Champions League matches against the top sides. Betfred will give you 10/11 on Manchester City winning this and over 2.5 goals in the game.
Bayern Munich v PSG (Wednesday 7 April, 8pm KO)
With 18 wins in their last 19 Champions League games, Bayern again look tough to beat. However, there’s no Robert Lewandowski for PSG to worry out. Even without their Polish striker, Bayern won at Leipzig on Saturday. They have a great home record in this competition, but will that scare their opponents?
PSG went to Barcelona this season and won 4-1. They only lost 1-0 to Bayern in last season’s final so they might fancy their chances with Bayern missing their top striker. PSG are struggling to win Ligue 1 and lost a vital home game to Lille on Saturday. Six of their games in this season’s Champions League have seen both teams score. Go to William Hill and they’ll give you 4/9 that happens in this game.
Porto v Chelsea (Wednesday 7 April, 8pm KO)
You could have spent hour after hour studying the form book and not predict Chelsea losing 5-2 at home to West Brom. Seven straight games without conceding and that happens! They have to bounce back from that loss as they travel to Spain, rather than Portugal for this quarter final. The win over Atletico Madrid shows what Chelsea are capable of in this competition. They won’t mind playing this game in Sevilla either, having won there 4-0 in the group stages.
The loss of home advantage could be a key factor here. Porto don’t win that many away games against top sides. They’re much happier at home where this season they have beaten Juventus and drawn with Manchester City. A bet on Chelsea getting a win has odds of 4/5 at Betfair.
