Can European Giants Survive in the Champions League?

Tuesday and Wednesday see the penultimate matches in the Champions League group stages. There are some European giants who could well be heading into the Europa League. Let’s look at the top games with the latest odds.

Wednesday October 26

Atletico Madrid v Bayer Leverkusen (8pm)

Atletico Madrid are third in Group B and two points behind Porto in second place. The Spaniards host Bayer Leverkusen who prop up the group but are only a point behind Atletico Madrid.

Atletico will be keeping a close eye on the early kick-off. Surprise group leaders Club Brugge host Porto. Brugge beat Porto 4-0 in the reverse fixture and another win over the Portuguese side will be great news for Atletico. It would mean a win over Leverkusen would take them into second place. However, their last game is away to Porto so they still have a lot of work to do to make the last 16.

The La Liga side have only lost two of their last 16 home games. They are 4/5 at Paddy Power to get the win that would at least guarantee them a place in the Europa League.

Bayer Leverkusen beat Atletico Madrid 2-0 in the reverse fixture. Those are the only goals Leverkusen have scored in this group. Both of their away games at Brugge and Porto were lost 2-0. They are 3/1 at William Hill to win this match but a home win looks the most likely result.

Barcelona v Bayern Munich (8pm)

For a second successive season, Barcelona are struggling in the Champions League. They only have four points from their four games. Their only win has been a 5-1 home win over Viktoria Pizen who have lost all their matches in Group C.

They are in third place and trail Inter by three points with two games remaining. With Inter fully expected to win at home against Pizen on Tuesday, Barcelona are in real trouble. Inter are ahead of them on head-to-head results in this group and host Viktoria Pizen in the early kick-off.

A win for Inter over a side that has conceded 16 goals in their four group games will mean Barcelona can’t qualify. However, if Inter slip-up, then Barcelona still have a chance. They are 11/8 at BetVictor to beat Bayern but they conceded too many goals to have faith in them doing that.

Barcelona have already lost away to both Bayern and Inter and could only draw at home with the Italians. The Bundesliga side top the table by five points after four straight wins. They’re already in the last 16 and might rest some players for this game. The group hasn’t been won yet though, so not too many might be made. Bayern are 7/4 at 888sport to win this and send Barcelona into the Europa League for the second season in a row.
