The next Premier League manager to leave their club market is always an interesting one. The past week has shown that it’s not all about who’s going to get the sack.
Who would have bet on Graham Potter being a manager on who to place a bet? The decision by Chelsea to sack Thomas Tuchel was the first shock of the week. That led to Graham Potter taking the decision to accept the job at Stamford Bridge and that leaves Brighton and Hove Albion joining Bournemouth in looking for a new permanent manager.
Just who might take over at those clubs will be looked at later in this article. Before that, who could be the next Premier League manager to leave their club. Brendan Rodgers is currently 2/5 at SkyBet to be that person.
Leicester City are bottom of the Premier League and there seems to be unrest at the club. The summer transfer window didn’t go well. City have one point from their first six games and were due to be hosting Aston Villa in their next game.
With the Premier League fixtures postponed due to the sad death of The Queen, their next game is now a trip to Tottenham. Another heavy away loss following the five goals conceded at Brighton on September 4, could well see Rodgers losing his job. City are 11/2 at Ladbrokes to get a shock win and keep Rodgers in his position for a bit longer.
Next in the list is the Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper. The newly-promoted side have spent most of the summer buying and selling players. They’ve beaten West Ham at home but only have Leicester below them in the Premier League table.
Their next game is at home to Fulham and then on October 3, they travel to Leicester City. That could be a match where the losing manager gets the sack, if it hasn’t already happened. Sky Bet give 5/1 on Cooper being the next Premier League manager to leave their club.
Also under pressure is Steven Gerrard. His Aston Villa side aren’t firing on all cylinders. Their next three league games are at home to Southampton and then trips to Leeds United and Nottingham Forest. All three are winnable games, poor results might just see Gerrard (11/2 at SkyBet) on his way out of Villa Park.
As seen with Graham Potter, it doesn’t take a sacking to win you a bet in this market. Perhaps the new managers at Brighton and Bournemouth might see a current Premier League boss changing their club?
Steve Cooper is 11/2 at Paddy Power to take over at Brighton. With his position at Forest in doubt, those might be decent odds. Brendan Rodgers is 16/1 at Betfair to succeed Potter as manager of Brighton. A current outsider is the Brentford boss Thomas Frank, he’s 33/1 at SkyBet.
As for the Bournemouth job, Coral offer 2/1 on Sean Dyche making a return to football management. Also strongly fancied is their current caretaker manager Gary O’Neill. A win at Forest won’t have hurt his claims.
Winning at Newcastle next Saturday (against former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe) would help too unless an appointment has already been made. He’s 15/8 at Paddy Power to become the new Bournemouth boss.
