Three Points for Easter Please

Easter is with us this weekend but will teams down the bottom of the Premier League have anything to celebrate. The current bottom three may well be the one that ends the season. Can Burnley, Watford and Norwich get results this weekend that might prevent that being the case. Let’s look at their games and some betting odds.

Saturday April 16

Manchester United v Norwich City (3pm)

With seven games remaining, Norwich are bottom of the Premier League. They are seven points from safety but it’s virtually eight because of their terrible goal difference. Norwich has four points from their last two games, but they still look on their way back to the Championship.

The point at Brighton is the only one they’ve earned in their last four away games. City only have nine away points all season and just eight goals scored. They are 12/1 at Paddy Power to get three more at Old Trafford.

Manchester United desperately need a win to boost their chances of European qualification. They have only one win in their last five Premier League fixtures. Only one loss in their last six at home but Watford got a point off them. Surely United will win this and are 7/10 at BetVictor to lead at half and full time.

Watford v Brentford (3pm)

It was that heavy loss at Watford that cost Ole Gunnar Solksjaer his job at Manchester United. To say Watford have failed to build on that win is the understatement of the year. The Hornets have played nine home league games and lost every single one of them. Eight of those games have seen them concede at least twice.

They begin the weekend in 19th place, six points from safety. The bad news is after this match, they will have played two games more than Everton and have a worse goal difference. More bad news is that they are away to Manchester City in their next game. They could be doomed to the drop by the time they play Burnley and Everton at home. It’s 15/8 at William Hill that they can beat Brentford.

A few weeks ago, the chances of doing that weren’t too bad. Brentford were losing game after game and in danger of being dragged into the relegation battle. Now they have won four of their last five league games and could finish in the top ten. Two of their last three away league games have been won and the 31/20 at Betfair looks a good bet.

Sunday April 17

West Ham United v Burnley (2.15pm)

Both these teams that play in claret need three points here. West Ham have dropped to sixth in the Premier League and their Champions League hopes are fading fast. It’s not their home form that is the problem though. They have won their last three at the London Stadium and are 7/10 at 888sport to make it four.

Burnley have only lost three more league games this season than West Ham. With just four wins though they are 18th and four points from safety. They used to have several games in hand but after this match they will have played one more than Everton.

Burnley have lost five of their last six league games and the last two on the road without scoring. It’s 21/5 at Coral they can win this but confidence in that happening is not very high with this writer.
