New York Sees Rise in Gross Gaming Revenue in March

March was another successful month for online sports betting in New York though lower than in January and February. Players bet $1.52 billion (£1.16 billion) and the gross gaming revenue (GGR) was $109.9 million, which was higher than in February.

The figure of $1.52 billion is just below the $1.54 billion that was bet during the month of February when there were three days less. However, that month did include the Super Bowl, one of the biggest American events to bet on.

Online sports betting was launched in New York in January, when $1.63 billion was bet in just 23 days. That was a record figure for a monthly handle, the previous record being $1.3 billion in New Jersey last October.

While the amount placed in bets was marginally lower, that wasn’t the case with the GGR. The figure recorded in March was 19.9% higher than the $91.7 million for February. It was below the $113 million figure for January.

The number of operators in New York rose to eight in March. Resorts World and its Resorts WorldBET app (owned by the Genting Group) launched in New York at the start of March. They took $5.4 million in bets in their first month with $453,470 in revenue.

Top of the charts again were FanDuel who are owned by Flutter Entertainment. Their handle in March was $619.7 million with $59.8 million in revenue coming from online sports betting. In second place were DraftKings with total bets of $388.9 million and $20.2 million revenue. Third place was filled by Caesars Entertainment. They recorded a handle of $256.4 million and that produced revenue of $19.7 million.

New York has now seen $4.68 billion wagered on sports since the January 8 launch. GGR during that period has been $314.6 million.

Now the focus turns to Ontario in Canada where private online sportsbooks launch today (Monday April 4). Among the companies that are launching are FanDuel, who will be looking to repeat the success that they have had in the USA.

They used to just specialise in fantasy betting but that has all changed since the expansion of the American gambling industry. Now they head to Ontario where both a sportsbook and casino are launching.

Their sportsbook app includes many features that should keep the new customers in Ontario pleased. This includes New Way to Parlay, ‘lightning fast’ payouts and customer service that is available throughout the day and night. For those in Ontario not too knowledgeable about sports betting, there is ‘Sports Betting 101,’ which is an online betting guide.

Their casino is available on iOS, Android, and desktop. There are over 250 games to play and a live casino too.
