Could Nottingham Forest Win the Premier League?

Just why are so many people betting on Nottingham Forest to win the 2022/23 Premier League title? That’s the findings of a bet365 report on bets made so far this summer. It’s also good news for Newcastle United fans and in the Championship, for Sunderland supporters.

Manchester United are also strongly fancied to win the title. However, United fans need not get too excited about this news. That’s because they are also the fourth-most backed club to end the season in the bottom three.

It could be quite an interesting relegation battle as also being backed to go down are Leeds United, Brentford, Southampton and Everton. Why are Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth not involved?

The three teams that won promotion from the Championship last season are all short odds to go straight down. The season begins in an even numbered year, so Fulham are probably doomed already.

Manchester United are 1000/1 at bet365 to be relegated. Perhaps fans have some money to burn or are being as pessimistic as an Oasis song. Brentford may well have second season syndrome and there’s no Eriksen this season.

Surely, Everton won’t again end up in the trouble they narrowly got themselves out of last season. Southampton and Leeds United are decent bets though with a distinct lack of consistency.

We are likely to see another battle for the Premier League title between Manchester City and Liverpool. There was an 18-point gap between second and third last season and that won’t be easy to close.

However, the betting stats indicate that City will finish eighth and Liverpool in sixth place. Who will fight it out for the title according to these strange stats? Well, Newcastle United are the most popular bet to finish in the top four with Arsenal and Manchester United also getting into the Champions League. Who else is being backed?

Unbelievably, it’s Nottingham Forest who are on their way back to European competition. More bets have been placed on them to win the title than Manchester City who are 4/7 to win a third successive title.

Now they did previously win the top-flight as a newly promoted side but could history really repeat itself?

Steve Freeth works for bet365 and isn’t too surprised at the bets on Forest due to “the euphoria” since they won promotion. However, he added: “Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see such a surge of interest in Steve Cooper’s team.”

There’s also information about who is being backed to win the Golden Boot. Erling Haaland is the top choice, so we seem to be getting back to some reality. Also being tipped is Gabriel Jesus, who could be a good bet if getting regular games with new club Arsenal.

Liverpool’s big signing Darwin Nunez is also popular as are Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. No sign of Callum Wilson then.

As for who’ll be promoted to the Premier League, well using the even number theory, then Norwich are probably certain to go up. Burnley are also being strongly backed to win automatic promotion.

Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion are fancied for three of the play-off spots. Plenty also believe Sunderland can win a second straight promotion and return to the Premier League. Now that would please Newcastle fans!
