Bored Wife Wins £1 Million EuroMillions Prize

Euro 2020 was great unless you hated football, missing penalties, hearing a certain song or being asked ‘where is this game being played?’ However, for Sammantha Young from Basingstoke, It helped her become a lottery millionaire.

The 33-year-old had become bored wit her husband Paul, 39, continually sat watching each of the Euro 2020 matches. It’s not that she isn’t a football fan but the thought of watching all the games was “trying at times.”

Friday July 2 was to be a big night for the couple. For hubby it was a double bill of Spain v Switzerland and Belgium v Italy. Meanwhile, his wife was busy drinking Prosecco and winning £20 on a National Lottery Instant Win Game. That was the start of her good luck as she then bought two Lucky Dip tickets for that night’s EuroMillions draw.

The football over, Sammantha checked the results just before she went to bed. No one had won the jackpot, so like an England Euro 2020 campaign, her ticket looked doomed for failure. However, as she says: “Little did I know I’d wake up a millionaire.”

It’s not just the numbers that are important on a EuroMillions ticket. There’s also the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker code and this draw had 20 £1 million prizes.

The next day she checked her emails and she thought one told her she’d won £1,000. Despite being a Chartered Accountant, she had misread the numbers and it was her husband (already excited as it was England v Ukraine later that day) who realised the win was £1 million.

“Neither of us were willing to dare believe that the win was real. We were convinced it was fake and that somehow I had been scammed,” said a disbelieving Sammantha. Camelot were called and the win confirmed, though she still thought it was a hoax. “I mean, it’s a pretty big stretch to spend £2.50 and in return bank £1,000,000,” said Sammantha.

The couple plan to buy themselves some treats and then they’ll pay off the mortgage on their home. Typical accountant, she also wants to make some long-term secure investments. Sammantha believes their win will make them feel more secure. Due to her being bipolar, the EuroMillions winner can’t take out life insurance, so this win will take away those worries.

Sammantha also wants a dream holiday in Bora Bora and buy the car she’s always wanted, a Ranger Rover Sports. As for hubby, he wants a Liverpool season ticket, that’ll be a long journey then. Their teenage daughter wants a Gucci bag and diamond ring, while their son fancies a fidget spinner.
