Bleak Week Ahead for some British Nations

The UEFA Nations League group stages reach their climax over the next week or so. It is likely to produce some bad news for British countries with relegations a distinct possibility. The same applies to France who are the defending champions but facing being demoted to League B. Let’s look at the top games coming up this week and the latest betting odds.

Wednesday September 21

Scotland vs Ukraine (8pm)

It might not be bad news for all British nations. Scotland are second in Group B1, a point behind leaders Ukraine. They end this group with home and away games against Ukraine and hosting Ireland.

Scotland know that winning their final three games will take them into League A. Even better, they might be the only British team in that League for the next tournament. They have so far beaten Armenia twice but lost 3-0 in Ireland. Scotland are 31/20 at Betfair to win this match and go top of the group.

Ukraine have won two of their three games but only have one home game (played in Poland due to the ongoing war) remaining. They have already won in Ireland though and the odds of 21/10 at Unibet are tempting. A draw looks likely here and that’s 2/1 at Coral.

Thursday September 22

Belgium vs Wales (7.45pm)

Wales may be in the World Cup finals but are in danger of being relegated to League B of the Nations League. They have just one point from their four games and are three points adrift of Poland, who they host in their final fixture.

If Poland can get something from their home game against the Netherlands (who top the group) then a loss for Wales in Belgium will see them relegated. Wales have had a couple of recent draws with Belgium, including the reverse fixture in this group. However, they are not in good form and are likely to be without Allen, Davies and Bale for this match. Hence, the odds of 7/1 at William Hill to win this match.

Belgium are a point behind the Netherlands and go there in the final match of this group. They lost 4-1 at home to the Dutch earlier in this group and unlike the Welsh, will hope that Poland avoid losing to the Netherlands. Belgium are 23/20 at 888sport to win this to nil.

Friday September 23

Italy vs England (7.45pm)

England are also facing relegation to League B. It never looked to be an easy Nations League group with both Italy and Germany to face. However, Gareth Southgate’s team has drawn their games against those sides. Little did we expect that England would lose at both home (4-0) and away to Hungary.

They are three points adrift of third placed Italy and losing this game will see them go down. The recent performances have been poor and their only goal in four games has been a Harry Kane penalty. England are 13/8 at BetVictor to get the win that will keep them alive in this group.

Italy are a point behind Germany and two behind the leaders Hungary. They travel to Hungary for their final game in this group. It’s a strange time for them as unlike their opponents, they won’t be going to Qatar.

Italy have only won two of their last nine internationals and their last game was a 5-2 away loss to Germany. Paddy Power gives 17/10 on them beating England. A bet on under 2.5 goals is 7/10 at bet365 and that looks a possible winner. The last four meetings between these two countries have seen that statistic come up.
